ATD is a consultancy whose focus is on providing both business and technical expertise in data migration and related fields. In addition to the two founder members we have a team of experienced associates, with specific expertise to match the requirements of different data migration projects. Ian Nicol (Projects Director)
Ian has worked in the field of I.T. throughout his career. Before setting up as an independent consultant he was employed in a variety of roles, including programmer, analyst, project manager and I.T. manager, by organisations as diverse as the Central Electricity Generating Board, Standard Telephones and Cables, Touche Ross, Morgan Grenfell and Geac Computers.

As a independent consultant, prior to the formation of ATD , he specialised in business systems within the leasing and automotive finance industries. In this time he managed successful, business-critical data migration projects for BMW, Ford and Toyota, each project requiring a portfolio of finance agreements to be brought in-house from an external service provider.

Ian has a degree in Chemistry from Oxford University. He is a Chartered Engineer and a member of the British Computer Society.

Richard Toothill (Technical Director)
Richard has over 20 years’ experience in I.T. as consultant, analyst, and programmer within the banking and credit business arena. Before forming ATD he was the principal design authority in a major data migration project for Toyota Financial Services, involving the transfer of data from an external IBM mainframe system into Toyota’s Oracle-based system.

Prior to that project he worked as a consultant for BMW Financial Services, on a major project to review the financial data integrity of the accounting systems, and on several related data migrations. He also has extensive experience working as a product consultant and designer for software houses providing packaged accounting and administration systems for banks and finance houses.

Richard's qualifications include a BSc in Environmental Sciences and a Certified Diploma in Accounting and Finance.

Fred Williams
Fred has extensive I.T. management experience, gained at all levels, and has worked for a number of large organisations, such as BMW, around the world. He has successfully set up I.T. operations, managed global I.T. projects and implemented major business change management / reorganisation projects, many of which involved data migrations.

As I.T. Manager for BMW Financial Services in the UK, he had overall responsibility for a number of I.T. infrastructure projects that allowed BMW to bring in-house previously out-sourced finance portfolios, including several successfully implemented, business-critical data migration projects.

He was, as I.T. Manager for GDX Automotive (Europe), responsible for the bringing in-house of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and Finance Systems in France, which involved complex data migrations, and for the successful conversion of all ERP and Finance Systems (SAP) in Germany, France and Spain to the "EURO" currency.

Fred is fluent in the German language and very experienced in the management of projects in different cultural and business environments such as those found in the UK, Germany, France, Spain, Switzerland, Czech Republic, USA and Japan.

Mike Brown
Mike’s I.T. career spans nearly 20 years, including 15 years as an I.T. consultant with a leading UK software house. During this time he was involved in a range of projects with high-profile clients, notably Forward Trust, the London Stock Exchange, Lloyds, Barclays and NatWest Banks, BT, Dell Computers and BMW Financial Services.

He has worked as a project manager, business analyst, database designer & administrator, and has technical expertise in many areas, including SQL, Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, Microsoft Access, UML, Tandem and COBOL. Latterly, as an independent consultant, Mike was part of the data migration team at Toyota Financial Services, responsible for the insourcing of vehicle finance contracts and worked as a business analyst on web-based applications for Honda UK.

Mike studied at Leeds University, obtaining a BSc and a PhD in Mathematics.

John Thomas
After gaining a Chemistry degree from Imperial College, John spent five years working and training with one of the ‘big four’ chartered accountancy practices in London.

He then moved to Tenhill Computer Systems Ltd (now Lynx Financial Systems), a supplier of software to the finance and leasing industry. During his time with Tenhill John contributed to a range of projects, gaining experience in areas such as
business analysis, financial consultancy, data migration and reconciliation, training
and project management.

He played a key role in projects at a number of international financial institutions, in the UK, Germany and Holland. For the past 9 years John has worked as an independent consultant in the finance sector, most recently being involved in implementation and data migration projects at Heller (now part of GE Capital), BMW Financial Services and Toyota Financial Services.
